The Heart-Warming Effect of Mise-En-Scene The Shop around the Corner is a romantic comedy directed by Ernst Lubitsch. The film follows a group of shop clerks at a general store called Matuschek and Company. Two shop clerks, Klara Novak and Alfred Kralik, disagree on everything and ridicule each other anytime possible. What they do not know is that they have been exchanging love letters to each other anonymously. Throughout the course of the film the two fall in love with each other and by the end it is presumed that they will get engaged. Aside from the charming dialogue and wonderful cinematography, the four elements of mise-en-scene enhance the heart-warming emotion evoked throughout the film. The first element of mise-en-scene that†¦show more content†¦It was very heart-warming to see this shift in his demeanor towards her, and the lighting amplifies the feeling. The second element of mise-en-scene that enhances the emotions the audience feels is sets and props. The music playing cigarette box is the start of the relationship between Klara and Alfred outside of the anonymous letters they send to each other, and it is also a running motif throughout this film. Because of this box Klara is able to show off to Mr. Matuschek her selling ability, and thus landing a job at Matuschek and Company. When Klara decides to spend Christmas Eve with her pen pal she tells Alfred she wants to get him a cigarette box. He tells her that is much more romantic to buy a wallet so that when he opens it he can see her picture and a letter from her. The sweet exchange between the two about this wallet leaves the audience with very warm hearts. Alfred gets her a necklace, even though she does not realize it is for her, and when he shows her this gorgeous necklace, she stands in awe of this beautiful gift and it is what prompts her to tell him that she had secretly ha d a crush on him. Brief History, The state of Kashmir came into existence in 1848 when Lord Lawrence the Governor General of British India sold the area to Gulab Singh a leader of Hindu dogra tribe for RS 7.5 million. Dogra rulers treated the Muslim Population who was meek, poor and peace loving harshly and taxed them Heavily. At that time of partition of India every state was given the option of acceding either to India or Pakistan. Lord Mountbatten the last Viceroy of India in his addressed the prince of the state on July 25,1947 said, accede to India or Pakistan, bearing in mind the geographical situation by the respective state, the composition of their population and wishes of their people. According to the portion of India plan announced by the viceroy of India on June 3 1947, the Muslim majority provinces were to become Pakistan and those with Hindu majority were to form India. In 1971 the cease-fire line was given the name of line of control. The people of Kashmir struggled in peaceful political way for about 40 years and then started armed resistance 11 years ago. The India govt. deployed 0.6 million troops to crush the resistance with tyranny and iron hand.
